Theme: Theme is the underlying message about life or human nature in a literary work (what does the author want us to believe?)
examples of theme statements:
helping others carries one through life
don't trust people who gossip
new experiences are a part of a well-rounded life
1st person point of view: the narrator is a character in the story and uses words such as i, we, me, us
second person: the narrator tells the story to another person using words such as you and your (usually directions)
third person limited: only the thoughts and feelings of one character are revealed. the narrator uses pronouns such as they, them, he, she, his, and hers.
third person omniscient: the thoughts and feelings of most characters are revealed. THE NARRATOR USES PRONOUNS SUCH AS THEY, THEM, HE, SHE, HIS, and HERS.
